Carrie Mae (Van Wyck) DeWinter was born June 29, 1918, in Wallkill, New York, to Wilbur David and Jennie Evans (Fowler) Van Wyck.  She passed away on July 21, 2017 at Jefferson Place in Pella, Iowa.

Carrie was a 1936 graduate of Wallkill High School in Wallkill, New York, and a 1943 graduate of Central College in Pella.  Throughout her career, Carrie worked as a Bell telephone operator from 1943 to 1947, in Newburgh, New York. In 1947 Carrie taught school for one year at Steamboat Rock High School, and in 1948 she taught school at Pella Junior High School for one year.

On July 28, 1948, Carrie was united in marriage to Elmer DeWinter at the Newburgh Reformed Church in Newburgh, New York.  To this union, two sons were born: Allan Craig and David Lynn. They made their home in Pella where Carrie was a homemaker.

Carrie was a member of New Hurley Reformed Church in Wallkill, New York, and then Second Reformed Church in Pella where she was active in Ladies Aid, Mission Circle, Bible groups and a Saturday morning coffee time for many years.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son Allan and his wife Debbie DeWinter of Texas, and their three children Rebecca, Jennifer, and Bryan DeWinter; and her son David DeWinter of Georgia. She is also survived by her half-brother Wilbur Van Wyck of Dunnellon, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Dorothy Kate Van Wyck, her brother La Ree Van Wyck, her step-mother Ethel Van Wyck and her half-sister Linda Van Wyck.
