Ozzy was employed as a Butter Maker and Plant Manager at the Sully Cooperative Creamery, later known as Mid-America Dairymen, Inc., for more than forty years, retiring in 1990. He was very active in the community, serving on the Sully City Council for seventeen years and as the Mayor of Sully for two terms. He was a member of the Galesburg Masons, Sully Lions Club, Shriner's Kaaba Temple, VFW Newton 1655, and the Sully Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsmen and conservationist. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, and guns. He was an expert on wild mushrooms and loved mushroom hunting. Ozzy enjoyed making wine and giving it as gifts to friends and family. Robert is survived by his wife, Berneda, who currently lives in Sully, Iowa; his two children: Steve and Vicki Oswalt of Ankeny, Iowa, and Linda and Barry Beyer of Sully, Iowa; four grandchildren: Ryan Oswalt and his special friend Rebecca Merrill, Ashley and Chris Vander Pool, Nick Beyer, and Kelsey Beyer; and one great-grandchild: Clayton Vander Pool.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Oswalt; and his step-father, Jessie Butin.
Ozzy was a leader, son, father, grandfather, and friend. He was larger than life. He will be missed.
