November 30, 1909 - March 2, 2008

Lloyd Mathes, son of Frederick W. and Wilhelmina Augusta (Hoening) Mathes, was born November 30, 1909 in Marion County, Iowa. He passed away at the Pella Comfort House on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the age of ninety-eight years.

On February 19, 1935 Lloyd was united in marriage with Bessie Mae Bogaards at the home of her parents. Lloyd and Bessie spent many years farming before their retirement in 1980. At that time they moved to Pella where they resided for twenty-eight years.

Lloyd loved to tinker with anything not working. He enjoyed bicycling, fishing, driving, the Mathes Bash, the farm, fellowship with the "coffee group", the Senior Site, listening to gospel music, watching old taps, and spending time with his family.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pella where he served on the building committee and as a deacon.
