Janet Vander Beek, the fourth child of Willem D and Marie (Van De Scheur) Hol, was born October 23, 1922 at their rural home in Tracy, Iowa. Janet attended rural elementary school in Mahaska County and graduated from Pella Community High School in 1940. She made Confession of Faith at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton in 1939. She was a faithful member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Pella.
On July 8, 1943 she was united in marriage to Elmer Vander Beek at her parent's home in Pella. Of this union three children were born: JoAnn, Robert, and Marvin. She taught school for three years. The married years of their lives were spent on the farm: the first sixteen years north of Pella. In 1959, they bought a farm four miles west of Leighton where they farmed for thirty-one years. In 1991, they moved to their home at 510 Washington Street in Pella. She enjoyed attending the Bible studies and quilt-making sewing-bees at Trinity Reformed Church. She moved to Pella Manor in 2006 and enjoyed many friendships. Janet passed away on Saturday, November 29 at her son's home in Olympia, Washington at the age of eighty-six years, one month, and 6 days. All of her children were present.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, JoAnn and Steve De Cook of Johnston, Iowa; two sons and their wives: Robert and Laurie Vander Beek of Bend, Oregon and Marvin and Anne Vander Beek of Olympia, Washington; four grandchildren: Steve and David De Cook and Sarah and Michael Vander Beek and Michael's wife Sarah; three sisters, Nellie Wyngarden of Oskaloosa, Marie Beekhuizen of Pella, and Minnie Van Wyngarden of Pella. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer Vander Beek, Jan 11, 2000, two brothers, Evert and Marion Hol, and two brothers at birth.
Janet's family is grateful for her loving devotion as a wife, mother, and grandmother.
