Junella Fern Vander Linden, 87, passed away January 5, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Junella was born on August 7, 1922, to David and Sophia (Walraven) Grandia on a farm near Leighton, Iowa. She attended school and took normal training in Oskaloosa, after which she began teaching in rural country schools.
Junella taught school for several years before and after her marriage to Andrew Vander Linden on June 24, 1949 at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton. To their union were born two sons: Stanley and Howard. After marriage Andy and Junella lived in Peoria, Iowa, and then farmed south of Pella for a few years. They later moved into Pella when Andy began his career at Vermeer Manufacturing.
Over the years, Junella held part-time jobs at Jaarsma Bakery and at Central College, but she was primarily a homemaker and mother.
She is survived by her sons, Stan, who resides and teaches school in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and Howard (wife Cheryl), of Earlham, Iowa; grandchildren Matt of Chicago, Chris of Ankeny, and Derek and Aislinn of Earlham; brothers-and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Junella is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Andy on June 15, 2000; sister Hazel Den Adel; and brother Edgar Grandia.
