Mariano Baclig Lopez was born May 7, 1918 in Manila, Philippines to Luciano and Cirila (Baclia) Lopez. He passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Knoxville Hospital, Knoxville, Iowa at the age of ninety-four.
On March 10, 1942, he was united in marriage to Christina Borja. While in the Philippines, Mariano was chief security guard for the U.S. Embassy. They left the Philippines and moved to New Jersey in 1973. In 1977 they moved to Pella, Iowa where Mariano was employed at Vermeer. He was a very recognized employee.
Mariano enjoyed being busy at home and especially loved gardening, working outdoors, family life and traveling. He was a focused and bright individual.
He is survived by: his daughter and her husband, Purita and Eduardo Nunez of Pella; three sons and their wives: Conrado and Charito Lopez of Chula Vista, California, Nestor and Ellen Lopez of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Louie (Merlina) Lopez of Pella. He is also survived by his brother Arsenio Lopez and sister Trinidad Rondilla both of the Philippines; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Mariano was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife of fifty-nine years who passed away in 2001; grandson Darren Lopez; and many brothers and sisters.
