The life of Nick Guillien is so much more than where he lived, the education that he had, the career that he loved, the hobbies he enjoyed and the family he left behind. The life of Nick Guillien was that of a father, a husband, a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a grandson and a friend that was a quiet and kind soul that did not ask for much, but gave greatly to all those around him.
Nick was a family man! He loved his family in a way that so few men do. He would leave us notes almost every day telling us how much he loved us, reminding me of something I had told him I was afraid I would forget and telling us how excited he was to return home from work that afternoon. In Dunkin's words, he loved his daddy because he "did cool things". Nick found delight in teaching and discovering life with his children. He let us know that he loved us through the little things, his diligence as a true partner of our household and always faithful at calling to check on our day during his breaks at work. We always loved those few minutes to talk to him and get caught up on our day.
Second only to his family was his love and passion for Total Outdoorsmen. Nick was the secretary and he had a vision for what Total Outdoorsmen will grow to be. Nick's heart to serve others shown through in so many aspects of his life, especially in his devotion to this ministry. The men that Nick served quickly became a brotherhood and he truly loved each one of you that he was blessed to serve with.
Nick was a quiet man of God, he did not boast of his faith, rather he lead his family and those around him in the way he lived his life. As Dunkin would shower, Nick would sit in the bathroom and read bible stories to him. Just two weeks ago he was laughing telling me "Did you know the story of David and Goliath goes on and on in the bible!" That will forever make me laugh! He enjoyed the fellowship of others at church on Sunday mornings at Federated Fellowship Church and always enjoyed Pastor Steve's sermons.
Nicks' career at Pella Electric Cooperative as a Journeyman Lineman spanned 10 years. He delighted in his work and loved his fellow linemen. No matter the weather, if there was an outage he would brave all conditions.
Nick lived and loved more in his short 32 years than most people will with a full life time.
Nick Guillien you will forever be missed by those that love you. I know that you will continue to guide me in my years ahead raising the two beautiful sons that you blessed this world with. Every step that I take in this life without you, I will do to make you proud of the woman that you choose as your wife. Love you forever!
