Maurine Van Der Kamp was born on May 11, 1918, on her family's farm in Jasper County, Iowa, to Guert and Della (Veldhuizen) Vande Krol. She moved to a farm south of Lynnville at the age of eight and moved again at the age of twelve to a farm south of Sully. Maurine received her education at the Junction School in Jasper County.
On June 3, 1941, Maurine was united in marriage to Cleo Van Der Kamp in Ottumwa, Iowa. They lived in Washington, Kansas, and Georgia while Cleo was in the service, and then they lived in Lynnville, Iowa, for one year after Cleo's discharge from the military. The couple began farming in 1947 near Taintor, and in 1951 they moved to the Van Der Kamp farm near Sully. Four children were born to Maurine and Cleo: Bryce Alan, Iris Mae, Roger Dean, and Eunice Elaine. Maurine was a busy housewife, raising her children and doing all the things that a farm wife did in that era. In 1988, Maurine and Cleo retired and moved into a home in Sully.
Maurine accepted Christ at the age of fourteen and was currently a member of the Sully Community Church. She loved gospel music.
Maurine liked going out to eat with friends, playing games, and taking bus tours. She loved having her family around and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and later the great-grandchildren. Her home was always open to her family and friends, and she loved baking banana bread for the grandchildren to enjoy. She faithfully attended her family's activities and Lynnville Sully events.
Maurine passed away on August 3, 2014, at The Cottages in Pella, Iowa, where she was a resident. She is survived by her four children, fifteen grandchildren, and forty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Earl (Mary) Vande Krol of Sully..
