The family in honor of Seymour's wishes
April 21, 1941 - September 30, 2015
Benjamin Seymour VanderSchaaf, son of Floris and Marie (Fynaardt) Vander Schaaf, was born April 21, 1941, in Mahaska County, at the home of his parents.
The family lived on a farm southeast of Oskaloosa and Seymour attended Red Country School and the Oskaloosa Christian School. Seymour was baptized in Oskaloosa Christian Reformed Church. He farmed the family farm, transported and delivered Winnebago motor homes and motor coach buses; he worked for Stine Seed, and enjoyed trading corn for the Chicago Board of Trade. Seymour loved to fly from an early age and enjoyed giving rides to family. He also loved flying with Midwest Aviation in Ottumwa. Some of his hobbies included attending air shows, travelling, and restoring his 1951 Ford 8N Tractor. He was also a World War II enthusiast.
Seymour loved the Lord, his family, the farm, and his music. His passion was playing the theater pipe organ at the Pella Opera House. He had a servant attitude and enjoyed helping family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Anita Hays, three daughters: Gina (Derrek) Geary, Treasure "Tressa" Hays and Autumn Hays; three grandchildren: William, Mason, and Madelyn Geary; two sisters Leona (Mart) Nunnikhoven, and Cynthia (Junior) Langstraat; brother-in-law Abe Nunnikhoven, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister; sisters Marjorie (Mose) Van Mersbergen, and Harriet Nunnikhoven; and brother Marvin (Tressa) VanderSchaaf.
