He grew up in Otley, and lived in Pella and Montezuma before moving to Boiling Springs, South Carolina in 2014.  Marv was a graduate of Pella Community High School, earned his Bachelor's degree from Central College, and his Master's Degree from Kennedy Western University.   Marv was a Human Resources Manager for approximately 25 years at Vermeer, Montezuma Manufacturing (Magna), and most recently at Grupo Antolin of Spartanburg.   He was a licensed member of Society for Human Resource Management for many years.

Marv met Nancy Koleen Ritter, and they were married on July 15, 2005, in Pella.  Marv welcomed Nancy's children Jessica and Andrew to this union.  Marv and Nancy moved to Boiling Springs, South Carolina one year ago and were enjoying their new home there.  Together they enjoyed travelling to many places.  Marv had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed traveling to places where he could go camping, boating, hiking, and mountain biking.   He coached and officiated soccer, participated in RAGBRAI, and ran in many local running events.
