William "Bill" Umble Obituary

William Owen Umble, born Billy Oren Umble on February 3rd, 1938, passed peacefully on to his final resting place on March 10.  William was brought into this world in the Loess Hills of Council Bluffs, his mother Vinnie and father Melvin named him Billy but there was a fire, and it destroyed his birth certificate so he was given a new name William Owen, he never changed it back.  Billy was an onery little explorer, he roamed the hills and went on great adventurers.  He was always a great storyteller, from the tails of his old country school to the time he was walking home with watermelons and managed to lose both of them before he arrived back to some disappointed family members.  In his early teenage years, the family relocated from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Pershing, Iowa.  Bill attended Attica High School where he met the love of his life Verna May Worthington "Sissy".  Bill and Verna were united in marriage in October of 1957, and had their precious baby girl Debora LuAnne Umble in December of 1958.   Bill worked at Pella Rollscreen (now Pella Corp) for decades, over 40 years of steady service to a company he adored and appreciated.  After his retirement he spent his years working on “the farm” and spending time with his girls!  Lovingly known as GG Bill (Great Grandpa Bill) he was the most supportive dad and grandpa you could ever ask for.  From getting flowers and candies for his “little buddies” to listening for hours and offering always the very best advice he was there.  Bill Umble was dependable, trustworthy, and above all else a gentle man.  He has gone home to be with his love Verna May Umble as well as many other friends and family members.

Left to cherish Bill’s memory include his daughter Deb (Dean) Whitten, his granddaughter Karissa (Ed) Hastings, and great-granddaughters Kalea and Piper Hastings
